About the Institute

The Hybrid Vigor Institute is dedicated to rigorous critical thinking and the establishment of better methods for understanding and solving society’s most difficult problems. Our particular emphasis is on cross-sector and collaborative approaches; we seek out experts and stakeholders from a range of fields for their perspectives or to work together toward common goals.

The organizing principle for all of Hybrid Vigor’s work is a topic or problem that is studied by or affects several groups of experts or stakeholders. In this context, the Institute offers several approaches to facilitate collaboration, both within organizations and across disciplines and sectors:

Blog. Hybrid Vigor’s blog, hybridvigor.net, provides the most topical look at cross-sector issues through the eyes of several bloggers, each of whom are expert in a particular topic area that spans disciplines and sectors. As the most public face of the Institute, hybridvigor.net provides a fresh, practical perspective on current events and issues in the context of collaboration.

Consulting. Hybrid Vigor works with clients in the public and private sector to develop solutions to problems that fall within the Institute’s broad purview of cross-sector collaboration. We also provide specific services to augment projects that may already be underway, such as meeting design and facilitation, authoring white papers or reports, providing expert project or document critiques, and original research.

Publications. The Institute researches, produces and publishes topic-specific journals, books, articles and other media. Our goals are threefold:

- To bring researchers from different disciplines in contact with each other’s work,
- To engage the public in the problems themselves, and
- To introduce both experts and the public to the new approaches and solutions we propose.

Tools and methods. Hybrid Vigor both develops and uses sophisticated methods and technologies to help researchers collaborate across disciplines, sectors and geographic boundaries. For more information, visit Collaboration and Sensemaking.

Working symposia. The Institute hosts invitation-only working meetings or symposia, each organized around a focal topic or problem, that include subject experts, stakeholders, established researchers from a range of disciplines and, whenever funding permits, graduate students and protégés. These meetings are generally organized as either a prelude to a formal project collaboration, or as part of knowledge integration for an ongoing project.
